The lovely L and I walked down yesterday to pick up our first CSA share of the year! Thanks to the cold late spring we had, strawberry season came late this year, which meant this week’s share included lots of fresh strawberries.
Here’s the full rundown of this week’s bounty, as well as some tips from Cooking From the Farmers’ Market about how best to store them for continued freshness :
Strawberries: store in single layers between paper towels in an airtight container in the fridge.
Green leaf lettuce: store unwashed in plastic bag for up to 4 days in the fridge. To crisp the leaves before serving, let them soak in cold water for 10 minutes.
Red leaf lettuce: same as green leaf.
Chard: store up to 5 days in a plastic bag inside the fridge.
Radishes: small radishes can last up to a week in a plastic bag in the fridge, large radishes can keep for up to 2 weeks.
